Carrier’s guide

Since Thermo Speed arranges the carriage mainly in Norway, below please find the necessary information for our carriers: General information: Area (incl. Svalbardand Jan Mayen island): 385,186 km². Population: approx. 5 million. Population density: 14.6/km². Main language: Norwegian. Currency in Norway: Norwegian krone. Technical requirements for the vehicles: Tyres: From 1 January 2015 to 31 March 2015 the drivers are obliged to use winter tyres on all axles (incl. lift axles). This applies to motor vehicles and trailers (of the following groups: M1-M3, N2-N3 and O3-O4). Winter tyres are those designated with the following symbols: M+S, MS, M&S, M-S, “Mud and snow”, 3PMSF or “3 peak mountain snowflake” which are manufactured for use in winter conditions. Tread depth: for vehicles with the gross vehicle weight rating exceeding 3,500 kg (motor vehicle incl. trailer) the minimum tread depth is 5 mm (this requirement being effective from 16 October in the provinces of Nordland, Troms and Finnmark and from 1 November in the rest of the country until 30 April in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark or the first Monday after the Easter Monday in the rest of the country). The required tread depth outside that period is 1.6 mm. Chains: a road train must have at least 7 chains if equipped with dual wheels on the driving axle, one of them fitting the front wheels of the motor vehicle, 4 of them fitting the driving wheels of the motor vehicle and 2 of them fitting the trailer wheels. Fines: the fine for driving a vehicle with insufficient tyre tread depth and/or missing winter tyres (if required) is NOK 750 per tyre. In case of a major violation of the above rules a prohibition to use the vehicle is issued and the offence is reported to the police.

Traffic regulations: SPEED LIMITS: town centres and built-up areas* 50 km/h, national roads ** 80 km/h, motorways *** 80/90/100 km/h. Allowed width of a vehicle on a public road in Norway is 2.55 m. Permissible axle load on the public roads in Norway is 1) 11.5 t per single driving axle, 2) 19 tfor a motor vehicle if the driving axle has twin wheels and pneumatic or similar springs. Driver's working time:the EU regulations on the driving and resting time are in force in Norway for all the vehicle types of the EU/EEA countries. Vehicles of other countries are subject to the European Agreement concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles Engaged in International Road Transport (AETR). Cabotage: a carrier holding a EU licence which delivered and turned over the international cargo at a EU/EEA country can exercise the cabotage rights when adhering to the following rules: the driver must operate under the cabotage rules using the same vehicle he was using to carry the goods across the border. After unloading the international cargo the driver can perform three cabotage runs at the maximum. The unloading after the last cabotage run must take place within 7 days from the date the international cargo was turned over. Tolls: AutoPASS is an electronic toll-payment system used in Norway.
